It’s in the Rhythm: Trusting Your Body’s Wisdom During Pregnancy

Matresence describes the journey you go on from the moment of conception through to parenting. During this time your body, mind, soul and spirit are constantly shifting to create new life and within you and also create a Mother. 

As you grow your baby, you may notice that your energy moves in waves. Some days, you feel powerful and inspired, ready to take on the world. You will know who you are and who you are becoming. Other days you may feel confusion and self doubt. Your body will gently whisper to you asking for stillness, rest, and deep surrender.

This rhythm is not random … it is the dance of your divine feminine and masculine energies at play. When we learn to honour this natural ebb and flow, rather than resist it, pregnancy becomes a profound initiation into trust, intuition, and surrender.

The Dance of Feminine and Masculine Energy

Within each of us, there exists a balance of masculine and feminine energy. These two forces  guide our actions and emotions.

Feminine energy is fluid, intuitive, and receptive. It is the soft pull inward, the deep listening, the surrender to what is. It is the energy that asks you to rest, nourish, and trust the unseen magic unfolding within you.

🔥 Masculine energy is action-oriented, structured, and determined. It is the drive to get things done, the part of you that creates lists, makes plans, and pushes forward.

Both energies are necessary AND during pregnancy, your feminine energy is asking to be heard more than ever. If you try to stay in constant "doing" mode—pushing through fatigue, ignoring your body’s requests for rest you will feel depleted, overwhelmed and disconnected from yourself.

Listening to the Gentle Whispers of Your Body

Your body is always speaking to you. The question is: Are you listening?

Some days, you may feel the vibrant surge of energy—the desire to get things done, clean, decorate your home and deal with the more practical elements in your life. It’s the drive to prepare, plan and take action … and not stop until it’s done.. This “doing” is the more masculine energy.

Other days, your body may ask for deep rest, stillness, and surrender. You may feel the need to slow down, retreat, and simply be. This is your feminine energy calling you inward, guiding you to restore and integrate.

Both are sacred. Both are necessary. Neither should be forced.

Trusting the Flow Instead of Pushing Through

In a world that glorifies productivity, it can feel uncomfortable to pause. Yet please know that honoring your body’s rhythm is not about giving up—it is about deepening your trust in yourself and your intuition.

Instead of forcing yourself to push through exhaustion, ask yourself:

💛 What is my body asking for today?

💛 Am I resisting rest because I feel I “should” be doing more?

💛 How can I honour both my need for movement and my need for stillness?

There is deep wisdom in slowing down. When you pause, you give your body the space to integrate the incredible work it is doing—growing life, shifting, expanding, and preparing for birth in ways beyond what the eye can see.

You also have time to notice the feelings you have and are being called to pay attention to. 

Practical Ways to Honor Your Rhythm

🌿 Start Your Day with Intention: Each morning, check in with yourself. How does your body feel? What does it need? Let this guide your plans for the day.

🌸 Flow with Your Energy Cycles: If you feel a surge of energy, embrace it—take a walk, prepare for baby, move your body. If you feel called to stillness, honor it without guilt.

💦 Embrace Rest as an Active Practice: Resting is not “doing nothing.” It is an essential part of creation. Allow yourself to nap, meditate, journal, or simply breathe without distraction.

🔥 Trust the Timing of Your Journey: Just as labour has its own rhythm—surges of power followed by moments of deep rest—so does your pregnancy. There is no need to rush. Everything is unfolding exactly as it should.

Your Intuition Knows Best

Pregnancy is an invitation to deepen your trust in your body, your intuition, and your natural rhythm. You do not need to push through exhaustion or force yourself into action when your soul is calling for stillness.

The more you listen to the gentle whispers within, the more in tune you become with your baby, your birth, and your own transformation into motherhood.

So today, take a breath, place your hands on your tummy, and ask:

"What do I need in this moment?"

Then trust the answer, knowing that whatever it is—it is enough.
